Slapping a thin piece of glass onto a thousand-dollar smartphone provides a delightful illusion of invincibility. In reality, these covers only prevent tiny superficial scratches from keys and coins. If you drop your device onto solid concrete, a millimeter of tempered glass is absolutely not going to stop the massive structural shock from turning your display into a glowing spiderweb.
