The CLOUD experiment at CERN proved that atmospheric aerosol nucleation isn't just about pollution. Boreal pine forests exhale highly reactive volatile organic compounds like alpha-pinene. When these chemicals hit the atmosphere, they rapidly oxidize and clump together with cosmic rays, forming heavy aerosol particles. These particles act as seeds, gathering water vapor to form massive clouds that shade the forest.
