George Washington has maintained his stoic expression on the front of the one dollar bill since 1963 without a single significant redesign, making it the oldest and most aesthetically stagnant piece of currency currently circulating in the United States. While larger denominations like the twenty and hundred dollar bills undergo constant security overhauls to add holographic threads, color-shifting ink, and massive watermarks to thwart modern forgery, the humble single dollar gets absolutely zero technological love from the Treasury. The government simply does not care enough to protect the one dollar bill because counterfeiting a one is completely economically unviable for criminals who have to pay for specialty ink and printing plates just to buy a cheap candy bar. It is deeply ironic that the founding father of the nation is eternally relegated to the one piece of money so cheap that even desperate thieves refuse to bother faking it
