A closer look
Before he became one of the wealthiest men in human history, Bill Gates was up at 4 AM coding a pixelated driving simulator. Included in the early versions of MS-DOS, 'DONKEY.BAS' was a hilariously rudimentary game where you drove a blocky car and tried to dodge donkeys standing stubbornly in the middle of a scrolling highway. Apple engineers later analyzed the code and famously declared it an embarrassment to programming. To be fair, Gates got the last laugh, even if the donkey did not.
