For a fruit that largely just sits there being prickly, a pineapple demands an absurd amount of your time. From the moment you plant a pineapple top, it can take anywhere from 18 to 24 months for the plant to produce a single, solitary fruit. And once you harvest it? The plant is basically done. Two years of life for one pina colada ingredient. Utterly inefficient.
