Dostoevsky raced to write a novel in 26 days

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Nothing inspires great literature quite like the threat of having your legs broken. Dostoevsky was deeply addicted to roulette and owed thousands to creditors. To pay off his debts, he signed a brutal contract promising a publisher a new novel in less than a month, or else lose the rights to all his past and future works. He dictated the book in 26 days.
