Booster drafting transforms the simple act of opening card packs into a high-stakes psychological poker game. Eight players sit in a circle, open a pack, pick one card, and pass the rest to their left. As the depleted packs circulate, high-level players aren't just looking at what cards are present; they are reading the ghosts of the cards that are missing. If you notice a complete absence of red fire spells in a passed pack, you immediately know the person sitting next to you is building a red deck. This invisible flow of information, known as "signaling," forces players to constantly pivot their strategies mid-draft to avoid fighting their neighbors for the same resources, all without ever speaking a single word to one another.
