Riding a wicker basket attached to a fireball is ironically heavily dependent on freezing weather. Hot air balloons require a massive temperature differential between the inside of the envelope and the outside air to generate any meaningful lift. Crisp, freezing mornings provide the dense outer air necessary to actually get off the ground.
