A closer look

Commercial airplanes are equipped with a horn, but it sounds more like a dying steamboat than a standard car honk and is solely used to get the attention of ground mechanics when the aircraft is parked. Pilots cannot blast the horn at birds, clouds, or that one Delta flight cutting them off on the taxiway, which feels like a massive missed opportunity for sky-rage. The button is usually hidden away on the instrument panel, waiting for that glorious moment when a captain needs to signal the tarmac crew over the deafening roar of jet engines. You would think a multimillion-dollar marvel of aerospace engineering would have a more sophisticated communication system, but sometimes you just need to honk at the guy holding the glowing orange wands. Sadly, you will never hear this majestic noise from your cramped middle seat in economy, where you belong!
