A roller-coaster ride becomes a character moment
The ride is an optional detour in Cyberpunk 2077, set in Pacifica, a part of Night City where unfinished development has left entertainment venues abandoned. Getting the coaster running turns exploration into a small repair puzzle: V has to restore the machinery before the track can carry anyone again.
The payoff is less about the thrill than the company. Johnny Silverhand—whose digital personality is stored on a biochip inside V’s head—appears as a companion for the ride. Keanu Reeves plays Johnny, so the scene lets players share an ordinary, physical experience with a character who usually exists as a voice or an intrusive apparition.
Why the small detour stands out
Much of the game presents Johnny through arguments, memories, and tense story scenes. A roller coaster gives that relationship a different setting: for a moment, the two are simply passengers, reacting together to the ride. The scene makes the strange premise of Johnny’s presence feel tangible without stopping to explain the technology again.
It also fits the game’s environmental storytelling. The coaster is a remnant of a promised leisure district, left idle amid the city’s uneven development; repairing it briefly returns a public attraction to use. The memorable part is the contrast: a battered piece of Night City infrastructure becomes the setting for a surprisingly ordinary shared outing.
