A closer look
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station experience severe internet lag, dealing with connection speeds that are often worse than dial-up. While they are hurtling through the vacuum of space at seventeen thousand miles per hour, their data has to travel from the station to geostationary satellites, down to ground stations, and back again. This means that humanity's greatest scientists, conducting groundbreaking research in zero gravity, are forced to suffer through buffering YouTube videos and incredibly slow email attachments. We conquered the stars and built a habitable laboratory in the cosmos, but we still cannot figure out how to give them a decent broadband connection. It is the ultimate proof that no matter how far we travel into the universe, we can never escape the absolute misery of a spinning loading wheel
