Konami released an anonymous, terrifying demo called P.T. on the PlayStation 4 in 2014, which players eventually discovered was a brilliant interactive teaser for an upcoming Silent Hill game directed by Hideo Kojima. The demo featured a constantly looping, photorealistic hallway that completely redefined modern psychological horror, spawning countless reaction videos and cementing itself as a masterpiece of game design in just under an hour. Shortly afterward, Konami abruptly cancelled the project, fired Kojima, and permanently deleted P.T. from the digital storefront, leaving consoles with the demo installed selling for thousands of dollars on the secondary market. Only a massive, disconnected entertainment conglomerate could accidentally create the most influential horror experience of the decade and then immediately nuke it from orbit because of petty corporate politics
