The most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy owes her nomenclature to a Brazilian soccer legend. When creating the protagonist for Metroid, the designers utilized the real name of legendary footballer Pelé, which is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. They tweaked 'Arantes' into 'Aran' for her surname. Truly, the gap between kicking a ball and eradicating space pirates is remarkably narrow.
