Disney executives apparently felt that a master of psychological suspense was bad for their family-friendly brand, completely ignoring the fact that Disney had already built an empire on traumatizing children by mercilessly slaughtering Bambi's mother and Mufasa. It makes perfect sense when you realize that creating lifelong childhood trauma is strictly a mouse-approved monopoly, and god forbid an outsider tries to cash in on the lucrative market of scaring the living daylights out of paying customers!
