A closer look

Before YouTube walkthroughs entirely ruined the mystery of gaming, you literally had to call an adult in Washington state to find out how to beat a boss. Nintendo employed hundreds of 'Game Counselors' whose entire 9-to-5 job was sitting in a cubicle with binders full of maps, answering frantic phone calls from kids trapped in the Water Temple. It was a beautiful, deeply inefficient era where customer support actually meant someone holding your hand through a digital dungeon.
