Nintendo reminded everyone in 2024 that it can still hijack the entire news cycle with one video. A June Direct finally showed off Metroid Prime 4: Beyond after years of silence, instantly reviving a fandom that had half-convinced itself the game might never appear. Alongside that, the showcase stacked new entries in classic series and surprise remasters, reinforcing Nintendo's unique grip on nostalgia plus novelty. While competitors fought over live-service dominance and acquisition drama, Nintendo simply dropped trailers and watched preorders spike. It was a blunt lesson: in a market drowning in content, a handful of trusted brands can still create an event out of a 40-minute stream.
