A closer look
Park rangers at the Grand Canyon have to constantly rescue tourists who blatantly ignore warnings and attempt to hike all the way down to the river and back up in a single day, often doing so in cheap flip-flops and carrying only a single bottle of water. The canyon acts like a deceptive inverted mountain where the hardest part of the physical exertion comes at the very end when you are already severely dehydrated and baking in hundred-degree heat. It is a stunning natural monument that doubles as a giant, geological intelligence test, violently punishing anyone who assumes millions of years of majestic rock erosion can be casually conquered on a Tuesday afternoon!
