An incredibly convenient excuse to make your friends pick up after you. Dropping a glove and picking it up yourself was historically viewed as sealing your own miserable fate. The only way to deflect the curse was to stand there helplessly and command an innocent bystander to grab it, gracefully passing the annoyance onto them.
