Apple did not actually invent Siri; they outright purchased the virtual assistant in 2010 when it was just a mildly popular standalone application available on the iOS App Store. Originally developed by an independent research institute, the early app was incredibly sarcastic, swore at users, and had integration with third-party services that allowed you to effortlessly book a taxi or reserve a table at a restaurant. Once Apple acquired the technology, they immediately stripped away all of its colorful personality, removed the most useful integrations, and hardcoded it into the iPhone as a highly sanitized corporate tool. So if you ever wonder why your voice assistant is essentially useless at everything except setting a fifteen-minute pasta timer, just remember it used to be cool before it sold out to big tech
