The first step into the metaverse came with a serious risk of spinal compression. Ivan Sutherland created 'The Sword of Damocles,' a VR headset so incredibly massive and terrifyingly heavy that it had to be suspended from the ceiling. It displayed basic wireframe rooms and tracked head movement, making users look less like cyber-pioneers and more like they were undergoing experimental dental surgery.
