Lettering a comic book is an incredibly strict psychological discipline. When a character screams, the letterer cannot just make the text larger; they must switch to a carefully designed, jagged burst font that subconsciously conveys audio volume and distress without breaking the visual flow of the page. It is literal volume control via typography.
