Nintendo explicitly created the screaming, aggressive mole character Mr. Resetti in the original Animal Crossing just to verbally abuse players who tried to cheat the game by shutting off their consoles without properly saving their progress. The character was uniquely terrifying because his furious lectures would get progressively longer and more unhinged every time you reset, eventually forcing players to manually type out humiliating apologies on the game's terrible virtual keyboard before letting them play again. This bizarrely punitive mechanic actually traumatized an entire generation of young children so badly that concerned parents flooded Nintendo with furious complaints, forcing the developers to drastically soften the mole's dialogue in later sequels and eventually make him an entirely optional feature. It is wildly amusing that in a fundamentally relaxing game about picking fruit, catching bugs, and casually decorating a house, the developers decided to include a raging subterranean authority figure specifically designed to cause real-world anxiety
