A closer look
Hearing a piece of false information repeated multiple times dramatically increases the likelihood that you will eventually believe it, a terrifying vulnerability called the illusory truth effect. The human brain uses familiarity as a cheap mental shortcut to gauge accuracy. If a politician, an internet troll, or a terrible podcast host repeats a complete lie enough times, your cognitive defenses erode, and your brain starts to process the familiarity of the statement as actual truth. It requires far too much caloric energy to critically analyze every single data point, so your lazy frontal lobe just assumes that frequency equals validity. This psychological flaw is the foundational bedrock of all modern propaganda and social media misinformation, proving that you do not need logic, evidence, or basic facts to win an argument, you just need a megaphone and a complete lack of shame
