A closer look
Nothing spells cinematic paranoia quite like successfully incinerating your own legacy just to prevent copycats. Kubrick was painfully aware that studios loved to recycle high-quality sci-fi models to save money for other, lesser movies. Refusing to let his breathtaking space station designs show up in some 'cheap sci-fi trash', he ordered the blueprints, props, and miniatures completely destroyed after filming. A beautiful testament to artistic integrity, wrapped entirely in aggressive, spiteful pettiness.
