Cards Against Humanity was entirely funded through a Kickstarter campaign by eight high school alumni who just wanted to formalize a horribly offensive version of Apples to Apples they played over winter break. The game's creators have since used their massive profits to buy a literal private island, purchase a Super Bowl ad that consisted of just the word 'potato', and dig a giant pointless hole in the ground just to see if people would pay for it. They brilliantly monetized our darkest intrusive thoughts and proved that adults will throw endless amounts of cash at anything that lets them act like absolute sociopaths at dinner parties
