Columbia Pictures almost completely ruined the iconic movie Ghostbusters because they aggressively pressured director Ivan Reitman to cast massive action stars instead of comedic actors. They originally envisioned a highly serious supernatural thriller, entirely missing the core appeal of schlubby, deeply sarcastic scientists running a failing extermination business in the middle of New York City. Thankfully, Reitman ignored the clueless executives, understanding that fighting a giant marshmallow man requires precisely the kind of dry, deeply cynical humor that only Bill Murray can deliver while actively ignoring a script and making up ninety percent of his dialogue on the spot!
