History is notoriously terrible at giving women credit, even when it comes to massive financial felonies. In the 1880s, Sarah Howe created the 'Ladies Deposit' bank, promising unmarried women an absurdly guaranteed eight percent monthly return. She paid early investors with the deposits of newer victims, casually pocketing the difference. Charles Ponzi didn't run his identical grift until 1920, yet he got his name slapped on the crime forever. Sarah was robbed of her villainous legacy.
