Phil Belanger, a founding member of the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance, admitted that the term Wi-Fi doesn't actually stand for "Wireless Fidelity" or anything else at all, it was literally just a marketing pun designed to sound cool and rhyme with hi-fi. The branding agency Interbrand came up with the name because the original engineering title, IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence, sounded like a cyborg's tax return and would never catch on with consumers. You have spent your entire adult life begging bartenders and coffee shop baristas for the password to a meaningless corporate buzzword, completely convinced it was an acronym for some highly technical radio wave terminology when it is really just an empty slogan
