While most huge seventies bands were throwing away millions in lavish studios, the band Boston went entirely DIY. Mastermind Tom Scholz recorded almost all of their legendary debut album in his own basement studio, layering the guitars himself. It proved you don't need massive label funding to make an iconic record, just an engineering degree and a lot of free time.
