Instead of booking a lavish studio, Bruce Springsteen recorded his incredibly bleak acoustic album 'Nebraska' sitting on his bed with a cheap four-track cassette recorder. He intended them to just be rough demos, but the raw, distorted tape hiss perfectly matched the depressing lyrics. He accidentally released an lo-fi masterpiece just by being cheap.
