Linux was almost called Freax
HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART
It takes a special kind of nerd to mash up the words 'free', 'freak', and the letter 'X'. Torvalds was completely serious about the terrible name, but a volunteer FTP administrator despised it and renamed the server directory to 'Linux' behind his back. Had that sysadmin not intervened, the entire global enterprise server infrastructure would be running on something called Freax.
