Back in the so-called golden age of flying, major airlines enforced draconian appearance standards for their stewardesses, requiring them to step on corporate scales before flights. If they exceeded the arbitrary weight limits—usually capped around 130 pounds—they were grounded without pay or unceremoniously fired. This wildly toxic policy finally died out after multiple discrimination lawsuits, meaning modern flight attendants can thankfully exist as normal human beings.
