If you think aggressively yanking a joystick is the only way to execute a barrel roll, you've watched too many exaggerated action movies. The control sticks in modern fighter jets are fundamentally rigid and barely move at all. Instead of relying on vast physical sweeps, they are packed with intensely sensitive pressure transducers. The pilot merely applies a few pounds of forceful pressure in a given direction, and the computer instantly translates that slight squeeze into a violent, gut-wrenching turn.
