A closer look
When a handsome local priest named Urbain Grandier made too many political enemies, the nuns at the Loudun convent coincidentally became victims of a demonological mass-possession. Foaming at the mouth and speaking in tongues, the nuns went to court to get Grandier burned at the stake. Their smoking gun piece of forensic evidence? A literal parchment contract, written backwards in Latin, allegedly co-signed by Grandier, Satan, and several high-ranking demons like Asmodeus. The court accepted this as totally normal legal documentation.
