Mattel desperately tried to stop the band Aqua from releasing their iconic pop song Barbie Girl in 1997 by filing a massive defamation lawsuit claiming the track ruined the innocent reputation of their flagship plastic toy. The toy company was deeply offended by the lyrics suggesting that Barbie was a blonde bimbo living in a plastic fantasy world, which is hilariously exactly what the product essentially represented to everyone with working eyes. The judge eventually threw the entire lawsuit out of court, officially advising both of the deeply petty parties to quite literally just chill out, resulting in a monumental legal victory for extremely annoying europop music!
