The result was the 1977 cult classic House (Hausu), an absolutely unhinged masterpiece of surreal pop-horror. Instead of standard movie tropes, we get a murderous grand piano that eats a teenager, a flying demonic severed head, and an evil housecat. Obayashi basically weaponized childhood trauma for cinematic glory.
