A closer look
Bolting a massive, spinning radar dish to the top of a stealth jet or a luxury yacht ruins the aerodynamics and invites mechanical failure. Metasurface antenna arrays replace the clunky motors with a completely flat panel embedded with thousands of microscopic, software-controlled elements. By rapidly changing the electromagnetic properties of these elements in real-time, the panel can 'bend' and steer the radio wave beam across the sky to track a satellite moving at 17,000 miles per hour, all while the physical dish remains completely stationary.
