Eve Online features an incredibly brutal, unregulated player-driven economy where real-world corporate espionage tactics are not only completely legal, but actively encouraged by the developers running the servers. In one of the most infamous digital crimes in history, a player spent an entire year infiltrating a massive in-game financial institution, gaining the complete trust of the player-appointed board of directors, and slowly getting himself promoted to chief executive officer. Once he had the keys to the digital vault, he immediately robbed the bank of hundreds of billions of virtual credits, which translated to tens of thousands of real-world dollars in subscription time, and fled to a rival faction. Instead of banning him for this sociopathic betrayal, the developers essentially applauded his dedication to the long con, reminding everyone that in the grim darkness of deep space, libertarian capitalism is by far the most dangerous weapon of mass destruction
