Everything old is aggressively marketed as new again. That fancy button on your modern dashboard that makes you feel like a fighter pilot is actually a century-old concept. Early automobiles completely lacked standardized security keys and instead relied on a chaotic sequence of toggling switches and pressing a floor-mounted starter button to spark the engine. Turn-keys only became popular later strictly to stop people from joyriding your expensive machine. We only returned to buttons because digital fobs finally made them secure again.
