United States Treasury officials actually designed and printed a staggering one-hundred-thousand-dollar gold certificate banknote in 1934, making it the highest denomination of physical currency ever produced by the federal government. Featuring the incredibly dour face of President Woodrow Wilson, these massive bills were never legally circulated to the general public and were exclusively used for high-level financial transactions between various Federal Reserve banking branches to settle massive accounts. The invention of secure wire transfers eventually rendered these incredibly valuable slips of paper entirely obsolete, and most of them were subsequently destroyed by the government to prevent them from falling into the hands of highly ambitious bank robbers. It is deeply amusing that the government created the ultimate physical manifestation of obscene wealth, only to slap the face of one of the most historically boring presidents on it and aggressively hide it from the actual taxpayers
