Before Shazam, you called a number to identify songs

Long before you could conveniently tap an app on your screen to figure out what song was playing in a cafe, identifying tracks was intensely manual. When it launched in 2002, you had to dial '2580' on a flip phone, hold the device up to the speaker for thirty seconds, hang up, and wait for the company to send you a text message with the song title. It was basically magic, just with entirely too many steps.
