The legend of the unkillable mystic is a lot less spooky when you realize his assassins were just total amateurs. Rasputin's killers claimed he shrugged off cyanide-laced cakes and multiple gunshots like a supernatural demon. In reality, the cyanide had likely degraded during baking, and the conspirators were wealthy aristocrats who literally didn't know how to aim a gun. The 'dark magic' keeping him alive was purely a side effect of aggressive upper-class incompetence.
