Spiritualists falsely claimed the Ouija board named itself using an ancient Egyptian word that actually meant nothing

Never trust a ghost's linguistic skills. The board's creators famously claimed the planchette spelled out 'Ouija' and told them it meant 'good luck' in ancient Egyptian. In reality, the creator's sister-in-law was wearing a locket with the name of an author, Ouida, and they just misread it.
