A closer look
For decades, this was considered a ridiculous urban legend invented by salty gamers. The 1982 'E.T.' video game was rushed out in just five weeks and was so catastrophically terrible that it nearly destroyed the entire video game industry. Left with millions of unsold cartridges, Atari literally drove trucks into the Alamogordo desert under the cover of darkness and buried them in concrete. In 2014, documentary filmmakers excavated the site and proved the glorious, petty myth was true.
