Nothing screams 'enlightened intellectual' like sipping wine out of a dead guy's cranium. In the 1700s, various mystical orders and fraternal societies in Europe adopted the bizarre ritual of using human skulls as drinking goblets. They believed it transferred the spiritual strength of the deceased to the drinker. In reality, it probably just transferred a lot of weird bacteria.
