A closer look

Members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn threw literal magical temper tantrums at each other when they weren't busy trying to decode the secrets of the universe. This secret society of Victorian occultists included famous writers like W.B. Yeats, who got into a ridiculous magical turf war with Aleister Crowley over leadership of the London temple. Crowley allegedly hired thugs and showed up wearing a ridiculous Scottish kilt and a black mask, while Yeats defended the stairs using a ceremonial dagger and sheer poetic rage. It really ruins the intimidating aura of elite dark magic when you realize these legendary mystics acted exactly like heavily armed nerds fighting over a community theater production
