Boron acts as a crucial flux in basic glassmaking

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Regular glass is incredibly brittle and cracks under rapid temperature changes. Throw in some boron, however, and everything stabilizes. Boron effortlessly alters the atomic lattice of the silica, massively reducing thermal expansion. It quietly takes fragile glass and forces it to survive the high heat of a laboratory without instantly shattering into useless fragments.
