Weightlessness isn't the absence of gravity; it is just the sensation of falling without anything stopping you. If you remove drag and sit inside a plummeting box, you would float perfectly around inside it. You are still completely bound by gravitational pull, but because the floor is running away from you at the exact same rate, it feels like glorious, terrifying floating.
