Glass that could preserve data for a million years
Archival researchers discovered they can use specialized lasers to burn microscopic, three-dimensional data pits completely inside solid blocks of fused silica glass. Because the glass is incredibly resilient to heat, water, and scratching, the data is projected to survive entirely intact for over a million years. We basically reinvented carving hieroglyphs into rocks, but with lasers.
