A closer look

Most RPGs use "essential characters"—invincible NPCs that just get knocked unconscious because the writers are too terrified of you breaking their precious plot. Obsidian Entertainment took the opposite approach and engineered an absolute nightmare of a quest dependency web. If you decide to go on a psychotic rampage and murder Caesar, Mr. House, and every NCR ranger you see, the game's logic seamlessly adapts. They created a fail-safe character named Yes Man—an unkillable AI on a rolling TV screen—specifically to ensure that no matter how irreparably you ruined the political landscape, the overarching narrative math would still elegantly resolve itself.
